When you complete a step child adoption you are making a declaration to your step child. You are saying “I choose you!”

Your Step Parent Adoption Means “I Love You!”

An adoption by a step parent is a very special thing. For many blended families it is a public declaration of your love and devotion to this child.

You are establishing a loving respectful relationship with your step child.

By completing your step parent adoption you are proving to your step child that you will not abandon them.

Multiple Children in a Blended Family

An adoption by a step parent when there are other children involved creates a “Brady Bunch” effect.

In this way, your step parent adoption has very far reaching effects.

This establishes equality between all siblings.

One child will never feel left out or separate again!

Stability Provided by Adoption By A Step Parent

In quite a few instances, many step children feel like they are tossing around in a storm of turmoil due to the loss of a parent – whether it is abandonment or death.

When you complete your step parent adoption you are calming this turmoil and providing what all parents want their child to have.

You are providing a stable loving environment for your child to flourish in.

I agree that adopting the step child is a much easier scenario for them. The love is felt and especially when they are young, it will create less confusion for them to live in a blended family.

I think it is a huge step for a step parent to adopt a child that is not theirs. It says a lot about their love for them and the person’s character as a person as well.

I agree with Julie and Gary. It can mean the WORLD to a child to finally come to that step where a step parent makes that big move. Just proves their love and commitment. That’s what it means to be a family. I love it!

Adoption is wonderful. I also have friends who are foster parents. A great process that’s also quite valuable to the system. Do what you can to contribute.
